What makes the product noteworthy is that it's taken some of the annoyances out of viewing professionally produced content on the Web. Modern Feed programming listings contain multiple streams, so if you want to view a certain format you can go straight to the source.The real hook, however are the feeder-created categories, which are far more enjoyable to explore than simply browsing alphabetically. You might think that there was one company ideally suited to aggregating the licensed video content available on the Web. If you said "YouTube" or "Google," however, you'd be wrong... ModernFeed.com claims to be the Web's remote control for video content, in the process redefining what it means to be a network programmer. For now, ModernFeed's focus is two platforms: the Web and the iPhone. ModernFeed supports the latter platform through icons and filtering that indicate which shows can be formatted for the iPhone, and users can construct their own iPhone-specific playlists. It is part search engine, part aggregator, with a specific focus on indexing professionally-produced programming, not user-generated video. It's also focused on actual programs, not promotional clips. I played around with Modern Feed and found it to be easy-to-use and well-laid out. Modern Feed also offers an iPhone implementation that looks pretty cool, other devices are to follow. Modern Feed's directory is designed extremely well; it's easy on the eyes and very intuitive to use. The site does have a search feature if you are looking for something specific, but videos are all grouped in several ways to make browsing addictive and rewarding. We really appreciate the ability to view short previews of videos before going to view the entire show.One of the site's best features for registered users is an idea borrowed from Tivo. It's called Season Pass and it is an easy way for you to keep track of a specific program and any new episodes that become available. Read more...

When Modern Feed founder J.D. Heilprin started making the rounds looking for Angel investors to fund his online video aggregation site a year ago, many wondered if there was enough professionally produced online video out there to build a robust site around. Now, of course, the problem is that there is way too much to keep up with. Modern Feed has built an intuitive, easy to use interface to help users navigate the legitimate sources of video available in the U.S., including broadcast & cable network sites, web production sites and magazine portals. The site doesn't actually serve the video. It's more of a Tivo device for the web, recommending programs, scheduling season passes and identifying shows optimized for WiFi-enabled iPods and iPhones. More important, a team of TV fanatic "Feeders" make editorial recommendations to push the good stuff forward; in the sea of internet video, users need a port in the storm. Modern Feed is loaded with full-length programming... The nice part about the human-editor element is that they will filter mulitple results to feature the best feed, with the fastest load time and fewest problems. Perhaps one of the best features is the ability to set up an account, add playlists and subscribe to certain programming so you can be alerted when new material is available. Here's how it works: the site itself is sort of the opposite of a TV.com or TVGuide.com, where the emphasis is on the content itself, rather than issues surrounding the shows. And what a collection of shows there are: over 1,400, with all the major networks represented, plus a host of smaller sources.
