Show Description:
Twelve diverse productions comprise the first season programmed by San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley. Ten of the season's twelve productions are new to San Franscico, created by such visionary directors as Graham Vick, David Poutney, Robert Lepage, Francesca Zambello, and Mary Zimmerman. San Francisco Opera Music Director Donald Runnicles will conduct five of the twelve 2007-08 productions. 2007-08 Season highlights include world premiere of Philip Glass's Appomattox; new San Francisco Opera production of Wagner's Tannhauser directed by Graham Vick; Gerald Scarfe production of Mozart's The Magic Flute; La Rondine starring Angela Gheorghiu; Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress directed by Robert Lepage; launch of the Company's Ring Cycle with new production of Das Rheingold; Company premiere of Handel's Ariodante starring Susan Graham; and Lucia Do Lammermoor starring Natalie Dessay.
