Fresh off a gig at Oscar de la Renta's atelier, Reyes went into his first season, spring 2006, as one New York's most hyped young designers. But his collection of sheer cocktail numbers and evening attire, seemingly inspired by his days chez De la Renta, was met with mixed reviews. Since then the 26-year-old has been developing his own voice, which still includes cocktail dresses aplenty but now with a more youthful vibe. For fall 2007 he showed a strong eye for color, texture and volume with lots of interesting brocade dresses and coats. In 2006, he received the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award, and he's become a red-carpet fave among young Hollywood, including actresses like Rachel Bilson and America Ferrera, who wore a purple Reyes creation for her 2007 Golden Globe win.
